1952
Inauguration of the new Stuttgart State School of Fashion Design, set up by the Baden-Württemberg Department of Economics as a support for the economy. The only college of its kind in Baden-Württemberg, training specialists and managers for trade and industry.
1960s
Initial contact established to the world of fashion, with visits to international fashion labels and haute couture manufacturers.
1972
Introduction of the full-time course lasting two years, an educational concept which went on to gain international recognition. The number of applicants started to rise, as did the amount of contacts in the fashion industry, whilst the reputation of SSFD moved up the rankings, as shown by participation in fashion shows at the 1989 World Exposition in Yokohama, the 1994 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and in the German Pavilion at the Hanover Expo 2000.
2005
SSFD was taken under the wing of the Department of Youth, Culture and Sport. The School’s unique strategy was maintained in unaltered form: a close personal relationship between teachers and graduates plus tight collaboration with industry, teaching all-round expertise in fashion and design.
